The Office of the CIO’s (OCIO) primary purpose is to develop a shared vision for IT programs, priorities, and investments that advance the Washington University mission, support operations and enable the university to continue to excel in its increasingly competitive landscape. To realize this vision, the OCIO is working with academic, clinical, research, administrative and IT leaders across the institution to develop a strategy that will better leverage our current investment in information technology and ensure that future investments help the institution, schools and departments, and our faculty and students achieve their objectives.
Establishing an IT governance structure, a major OCIO initiative, was a significant first step in formalizing the development of a strategy. The IT governance structure will work to identify IT services needed to support that strategy and to prioritize projects to create those IT services. The OCIO will work to create the proper balance of external, central, shared, and local IT providers to deliver services that support the overall strategy.
